good or bad!?

When I have to find information or documents or to write an essay about a specific topic I am always sceptical about using the Internet: the Web offers an endless amount of information and material which could easily fill ten essays on my topic. However, the very fear that I might fill my essay with non-sensical drivel written by someone with no real clue about the subject is one which normally prohibits me from using the internet a great deal. This is why I usually prefer to go to the library and explore the books on offer there...at least it's something official which has been published!

Anyway the Internet has the advantage of being much easier to access than a real library..it's right here on the desk in your room...easy!
When I use it for my research I first of all use google as a search engine and then when huge lists of websites containing the word I'm searching for appear, I pay attention to the url of the pages in order to understand and make sure they belong to official and reliable websites.
Another fundamental aspect that needs to be taken into consideration is: Who is saying this?Who wrote these things? Is this author reliable or is he just someone who decided to publish his work on the web?!

Until now all my searches followed primarily these criteria...the rest of my judgement was based on the content. I had a look at the websites of some Universities and the advice they give when surfing the web and collecting sources is much clearer and useful. From now on I'll definitely change the way I evaluate information sources from the web.

scrubs

Here is a short clip of a Scrubs episode..I love this TV show!I'm sure u already know it and u'll love it!Almost every night I watch an episode..it's just so funny and I realized it's a good listening-exercise to learn English.
Learning is easier if u do it having fun!x

youtube

Youtube is one of the most popular websites on the internet today, users from all over the world can upload their own videos and invite others to comment on them. Whilst some people do use YouTube in the manner for which it was intended, uploading informative and sometimes funny articles of their own creation, the majority of people only use it to watch music videos or episodes of TV shows. There has been many news stories in the press recently about the possibility of major record companies taking the YouTube owners to court for breach of Copyright.

In my opinion YouTube can be useful for us as a tool for learning English as there are many clips and indeed entire episodes of popular TV programmes avaliable to view. One of my favorite finds on YouTube has been the American comedy show Scrubs. There is a clip of the show above and if you like it you can also view entire episodes on YouTube which is great even if it is technically a breach of copyright!

Hope u'll like it!
See u!

podcasts

Hello everybody!!
Today I've discovered another useful tool the web provides: podcasts!
Well, I had heard this word before when listening to the radio -radio2!- but honestly it never crossed my mind to go and check how podcasts work...until today! I have been listening to conversations, interviews, english lessons online, stories and much more the whole morning...I enjoyed myself because discovered some really funny speeches or interesting news and therefore want to share what I found with u!
Hope u'll enjoy them!

www.china232.com

This website is really cool. Two guys talk about different subjects, just visit the main page, then click on lessons and you'll find interesting conversations about everyday life...such as phone conversations, confronting a problem with a friend, talking about a date, talking about important subjects like global warming, health...and much more...the website is really easy to understand, and plus it offers a list of key vocabulary and phrases which are discussed in the podcast...go have a look!

www.guardian.co.uk

This is the official website of the famous English newspaper, here u can find on the podcast format many articles on current topics, interviews, discussions and obviously news!
Listening to guardian's podcasts can be very interesting and useful both from the linguistic point of view - to improve our English, learn new words and do some listening exercise which is always good!-, and from the cultural point of view to keep up with the world's latest news!!

www.thebobandrobshow.com

As you can easily understand from the url of this website, here we deal with two "comedians", two guys - an English and an American- which discuss different subjects ranging from cultural aspects to food habits...well to use their own words this website contains a hodgepodge of podcasts which can sometimes be funny! I found it interesting to have two speakers coming from different countries -and continents!- in this way u can learn and appreciate two English accents and pronounciations!

Well that's all for now!
I hope u'll find those websites useful and see u soon!

del.icio.us

Discovering del.icio.us was a good experience. Here it is..another useful tool to help us when searching and travelling the blogosphere. The del.icio.us system offers a great opportunity for bloggers and internet users in general, enabling them to store and share interesting web pages.
I've enjoyed searching for webpages to add to my bookmarks, it's like creating our own online bookshelf, it's a kind of virtual place where we keep all the things we think are useful, it's like having a virtual desk full of papers and things to read, and the good thing is that you can carry it everywhere...'cause it's virtual...it's there somewhere..you can't touch it..but just log on onto del.icio.us and there you are..your virtual store is ready to be used..isn't it great!?

happy halloween..ahahah!

Should Halloween be imported to and celebrated in Italy or not?

Mmm...well, in my opinion, which can sound a bit superficial, Halloween is just another occasion to party and have fun!I think that a lot of people like it above all because of its being "exotic", I mean it is a foreign tradition, that's right, it doesn't belong to our history...but that makes it even more fascinating!
This is why I like it...it's just fun!
Kids like to trick-or-treat, teenagers like to fancy-dress and party.
What I don't like about Halloween is that it has been commercialised... but that's just what happened to every tradition...just think about Christmas or Easter, Carnival or Mother's day...everything nowadays is commercialised...we live in a consumer society and like it or not, it's just another aspect of globalization...
What do u think?!

bloglines

After spending a couple of hours on bloglines i must say I'm still quite confused...even if the video from youtube was really well done, really helpful! I had to follow it step by step but at the end it was successful!!If I get it right I think bloglines could be a very useful tool to save our time when searching for new comments or new posts...it is good indeed because it also allows you to keep it all visible in the same webpage, which is a great thing!
I just hope I'll be able to use it soon..eheh!
